徐鑫怡: Merry Christmas! I am Xu Xinyi from Class1,Grade1.Glad to meet you! As we all know, today is Christmas Day. Christmas is such a wonderful Western festival that we have all expected it for a long time. Besides,I am very happy to introduce a special guest to you. He is our oral English teacher.Welcome,Eric! It is so nice to have you here with us.
Eric:It's a pleasure to be here.
徐鑫怡:There is no doubt that Christmas is the most important holiday in Western countries. That is to say,Christmas is to Western people what the Spring Festival is to Chinese. So,Eric, how do you usually celebrate Christmas in China?
Eric:Well, I have not been home for Christmas in twelve years, so I have gotten very used to celebrating Christmas here. Usually, I do several things to celebrate. First, I sometimes go to the Christmas Program that the local church puts on each year. There are several acts that include singing, dancing, stories, comedy, and other things. For the last few years, Katie and I have had some close friends and family come over to our house for dinner. We also make Christmas cookies and give them away to our friends. On Christmas morning, Katie and I exchange gifts and video chat with my family in the US. Also, I really like Christmas music; this year I started listening to it in October. Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year.

徐鑫怡:Do you have some stories to share with us, which impressed you deeply in Christmas?
Eric:Hmm... I have several, I think that one of the most striking memories that I have about Christmas time happened my first Christmas after I finished university. I had a job and was making my own money for the first time. I had decided long ago that when I started making my own money, I always would use part of it to help others. That Christmas, I decided to buy several toys and take them to a local orphanage (that is a home for children who don't have children). I went to the toy store and picked out four toys that I thought were really cool.I took them home and wrapped them up. The next day, I went to the orphanage. I thought that I would just drop them off and that the workers would give the toys to the kids, but that didn't happen. Instead, they had me give the toys to four of the kids. I met the four kids (two boys and two girls) and talked to them for a while. Two of them told me very sad stories about losing their parents. I gave them the gifts, and they were so happy. They tore the wrapping paper off,and were overjoyed at the idea of a new toy. The happiness in their eyes is something I will never forget. I played with them for a little while, and afterwards, we started to say goodbye. One of the boys hugged me and said that this was his first Christmas gift ever. It broke my heart. There are so many kids who need parents, or a big brother or sister. None of us has enough money to buy gifts for all of them, but all of us can give of our time. We can spend time playing with them and talking to them. It may not seem like much, but it lets them know that someone cares about them. lf we all bought one gift and gave some of our time every week, every child in the world would feel loved. That isn't something we should do only at Christmastime, but all year round. That has really shaped the way that l view Christmas and what really means. Most little kids think that Christmas is about getting gifts and toys, but it's rally not. It's about showing others that you love them and care for them. it's about giving freely of your money, your resources, and your time to let others see that love.
徐鑫怡:Thank you,Eric.Today's program is over, thank you for your listening and wish you to have a nice day.Goodbye.
